Pride In Local Music Showcase + Queer Artist Marketplace
The annual Pride In Local Music Showcase, presented by the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce and SXSW Music and produced by OutLaw Pride. Hosted by Maxine LaQueene & friends, with performances from Steph Cash, Maru Haru, Painterly and headliner Melissa Carper with her full band. The night concludes with a breakdance performance and retro DJ set by Gabriel “Bboy Wicket” Jaochico — the subject of the next evening's Closing Night Film at Galaxy Theatres.

Melissa Carper
Old-school country that resonates across time and place — old-time, bluegrass, western swing, jazz and blues woven back together, from the days before the industry drew artificial lines and race-based genre labels. Celebrated for profoundly observational lyrics, a homespun sensibility and a voice that curls like a croon from a gramophone; Nashville veteran Chris Scruggs dubbed her “HillBillie Holiday.”

Maru Haru
Austin indie rock led by singer-songwriter James Tabata, with songs about Asian American and Queer experience, making peace with family and society, and moving through the world with empathy. Influences run from video games and math rock to impressionist classical, J-Pop and indie folk; upcoming album “Dearly Belated” is dedicated to deceased love, proud allies and past selves who needed hope.

Indie-pop and alternative project centered on multi-instrumentalist and producer Jonathan Barrett, known for thoughtful songwriting and energetic live shows at rooms like Kick Butt Coffee, Cheer Up Charlies and Mohawk. Singles include “SMILE” (2026), “Little Light of Day” (2025) and “Ok/Alright” (2024).

Breakdance performance & retro DJ set
Bboy Wicket
The evening closes with a live breakdance performance and retro DJ set by Gabriel “Bboy Wicket” Jaochico — the only artist on the bill who appears in both lineups this weekend. The next night he trades the decks for the big screen as the subject of our Closing Night Film, WICKET, at Galaxy Theatres.
